Nike Tiempo 8 or Nike Tiempo 9

In this post, we’re going to compare the American brand’s new model with its predecessor to see just how much progress the new Tiempo has made.

New Nike Tiempo 9

The Nike Tiempo football boots combine classic features such as genuine leather and a comfortable sole with all the benefits of modern football boots in terms of lightness and fit. This usually results in a boot that’s very easy to fall in love with.

For the eighth version, perhaps – and I say perhaps – they went for something a bit ‘too modern’; don’t get me wrong, it’s a great football boot, but it lacked that leather feel and that Tiempo essence that other models had. With this new Nike Tiempo 9, we’re returning somewhat to the original feel of the Tiempo, with that leather touch as its selling point, and a lightness rarely seen in this type of boot.

Starting with the changes, the main one is the upper: we’ve done away with internal cages and that infamous Quadfit system from the previous generation (which, in my opinion, did more harm than good), and we’ve gone back to a ‘standard’ inner liner to give that premium leather feel throughout the boot.

What’s more, this upper features various foam reinforcements in the areas that come into contact with the ball; whilst not being overly bulky, these cushion impacts and enhance the power of passes and shots. The reinforcements are distributed across the entire front of the boot, leaving the back completely unobstructed – much in the style of the previous Tiempo V, one of the best we can recall.

We also notice a significant change in the feel of the leather: whilst it remains a single piece, just like on the Nike Tiempo 8, the absence of an inner mesh or any other elements means that the leather feels noticeably softer and smoother.

As for the sole, although we can see slight changes, such as a more pronounced torsion arch and a redesign of the rear lugs, the truth is that, overall, the feel of traction and grip is very similar. We’re looking at a mid-profile sole that’s very light – something that’s striking in this type of boot, as being so sturdy and made of natural kangaroo leather, you’d normally expect it to weigh more. But, friends, the new Nike Tiempo 9s are light – very light.

In conclusion, we have a new Tiempo up our sleeve – a boot that’s more reminiscent of past models and which is a significant improvement on the previous generation. It offers better ball control, a sturdier build, is lighter and, above all, feels better on the foot – a key factor in choosing this boot. Friends, a new boot that is sure to delight everyone who tries it.
