The Premier League has just entered the decisive phase of the 2019–2020 season, and what better way to mark this moment than by unveiling a new official match ball. Today, the 22nd of February 2020, we will finally get to see the new Nike Premier League ‘Tunnel Vision’ Merlin ball in action, as it makes its debut in the London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea FC.
Thanks to Aerowtrac technology, this ball has been designed and manufactured to offer a more stable and predictable flight. Whatever the speed at which it is struck, the ball maintains a stable trajectory through the air. In terms of design, the focus is on striking a visual balance between simplicity and the striking orange colour, achieved through a series of circles strategically distributed across the surface. The design is complemented by dynamic graphics running across the ball which, according to Nike, help players track its trajectory more easily so they can focus on what really matters: the game.
One of the panels on the ball features an image of the coveted Premier League trophy – a detail designed to remind all clubs of the prize they all want to lift at the end of one of the world’s most competitive leagues. What do you think of the new Premier League ball?
