The new Boca Juniors jersey from adidas takes us back in time almost immediately. After nearly 23 years with Nike, the Xeneize are officially embarking on a new chapter with adidas as their kit sponsor. A historic change that marks the start of a new era for one of Argentine football’s most iconic clubs.

Boca Juniors' adidas jersey

The world of official football jerseys is one of the major arenas in which sports brands compete to strengthen their identity and consolidate their presence amongst the world’s leading clubs. The German brand has been demonstrating for years that it has this field firmly under its control, so it comes as no surprise that the agreement signed with Boca Juniors is for a period of ten years. This period will enable the brand to build a solid relationship and continue to expand its prestigious portfolio of clubs, which already includes teams such as Real Madrid, Benfica, Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Ajax, amongst many others.

As is often the case with this sort of deal, the change is mainly due to more favourable financial terms for the Argentine club. Until just a few weeks ago, the details of the agreement were not entirely clear, and it even looked as though Boca would be renewing its contract with Nike, the brand that had kitted out the team since 1995. However, fluctuations in the dollar exchange rate ultimately proved to be a decisive factor in the deal taking a new turn, with adidas eventually securing the club’s sponsorship rights.

When it comes to design, there’s one word that perfectly sums up this new adidas Boca Juniors jersey: classic. The home kit stays true to the club’s identity, featuring a navy blue base combined with the unmistakable horizontal yellow stripe that has made Boca one of the most recognisable teams in the world. As a special touch, adidas has incorporated the inscription ‘MITAD +1’ at the top of the back, a tribute to the Xeneize supporters. It is a message steeped in symbolism that refers to the club’s famous motto: ‘half plus one’ – a way of expressing that its supporters outnumber those of any rival.

Technical features: Boca Juniors' 2020 adidas jersey

In terms of technology, this jersey offers the same performance features as the rest of adidas’s elite kits. The top-of-the-range version incorporates Climachill technology, developed to reduce friction, improve breathability and offer maximum comfort even during the most intense moments. It also stands out for its lightness and a closer fit, designed to enhance performance on the pitch.

But it’s not all about the professional version. As usual, adidas also offers a fan version of the jersey, featuring Climalite technology. Just because it’s a more affordable model doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality: this fabric is designed to wick away sweat and provide great comfort both whilst playing sport and in everyday life. A perfect choice for those who want to show off the Boca Juniors colours both on and off the pitch.
