Chelsea FC 1970 FA Cup Special Edition Jersey

Many of you will already have seen Chelsea FC’s new special-edition football jersey. With a design that’s very different from what we’ve become used to seeing in recent years, this kit proves that retro style never goes out of fashion. It’s a piece that, as well as commemorating a special occasion, reflects the pride the fans feel for the club and features details that pay tribute to the London side’s history.

The Chelsea jersey, which the players wore on the 5th of January against Nottingham Forest Football Club, stood out for its design and distinct retro style, with an aesthetic entirely inspired by the 1960s and 1970s. This was a very special gesture by Nike, in collaboration with Chelsea, to mark the 50th anniversary of the club’s historic first FA Cup victory in 1970 against Leeds United FC.

Chelsea FC special edition jersey

Although this Chelsea jersey came as a surprise and, above all, was very well received by the fans, unfortunately it will not be the kit we see Chelsea wearing as they finish the 2019/20 season. An all-blue jersey, as one would expect, featuring yellow detailing throughout – a signature colour combination for the London side that undoubtedly demonstrates the club’s pride in its two most iconic colours.

One of the details that really catches our eye about this jersey is that the Nike Swoosh and the logos of the sponsors, Yokohama and Hyundai, have been fully integrated into the front design of the kit and, in a way, are also discreetly concealed. All this is aimed at offering fans and supporters of the London club a truly classic yet innovative shirt. It’s a look typical of the 1960s and 1970s, when club crests were the sole and true stars of football jerseys.

Technical features: Nike Vaporknit

As a high-end jersey, this new range also features truly unique technological details, such as ‘Vaporknit’ technology, which optimises the fabric to help keep us cool and dry at all times, whatever the weather conditions. The kit has a ‘slim fit’, a common feature in high-performance football jerseys, and is also made from 100 per cent recycled polyester. This is a key aspect of the American brand’s strategy to protect the environment.

The Chelsea FC jersey for the 2019/20 season is a departure from what the world’s leading football brands have got us used to in recent years. A classic home kit that will undoubtedly delight all fans and supporters of the London club.
