On the 30th of July, Nike launched its campaign, “You Can’t Stop Us”. Closed gyms and empty stadiums have not stopped athletes from moving forward and using their platforms to help bring about change. Through these actions, sport shows us what a level playing field looks like and reminds us that a better future is possible. And this is precisely what the American brand has sought to demonstrate with the launch of the national teams’ official jerseys. Come what may, we will keep going.
Megan Rapinoe, captain of the US women’s national football team, said: “We have all these people out on the streets, making their voices heard, and those voices are being listened to. I urge people to stay strong right now and not to give up. I believe it is everyone’s responsibility to advocate for change. The players may be back on the pitch, but we’re not going back to normal. We need to keep reimagining this world and making it better.”
Now more than ever, FOOTBALL is a vital source of unity and strength for what lies within us.
National teams jerseys
Whatever happens, in this uncertain 2020/21 season, absolutely every European national team will be ready for the proposed EURO 2021. Here are the latest updates.
Portugal jerseys
The European champions, on a quest to reclaim the title. A stunning combination of power and elegance, Portugal’s traditional red and green kit is adorned with gold to create a look worthy of football royalty. A turn-down collar gives the new home jersey a refined feel, as does the patriotic red, green and black trim on the collar and sleeves. The gold squad number ties in beautifully with the gold on the premium crest, whilst another flash of gold – a Portuguese ‘P’ – is printed inside the jersey. Confidence and style: attributes this team has in abundance.
Netherlands jerseys
The lion has always been a powerful symbol in Dutch culture, and in 2020, it roars from the heart of Nike’s new collection for the Netherlands. Featured on the Dutch coat of arms and the KNVB crest, the lion’s attributes of pride, strength and courage are celebrated in a new and innovative home kit design that includes an exclusive fabric depicting the face of a brave and fearless lion. The tonal orange colour palette ensures the lion’s outline makes a bold yet tasteful impression. The lion takes centre stage on the front of the jersey, helping the KNVB men’s and women’s teams make a statement of intent.
England jerseys
Capturing the spirit of the modern England team, which represents everyone. “This team is more united than ever. When we pull on the England jersey, all club rivalries are put aside,” says captain Harry Kane. “We are united in our goal to represent our fans everywhere. This collection captures that sense of togetherness that we hold so dear.”
France jerseys
The world champions have their battle attire ready. Just as in 2018, when Les Bleus emulated the heroes of 1998 by securing the nation’s second World Cup title, the federation will feature a red stripe proudly running across the chest of their home kit to symbolise brotherhood. Kylian Mbappé comments: “I think two years ago we united the country, just like in 1998. Now we’ll wear a red stripe on our jersey, just like them. That was a great team, which created a legacy. Now is the time to keep striving to be the best and create one of our own.”
Croatia jerseys
Croatian football is all about pride, passion, skill and dazzling moves: all of these elements are captured in the 2020/21 kit. “Croatia is always a truly inspiring nation for Nike because of the power of its identity,” says Scott Munson, Vice President of Nike Football Apparel. “The new 2020 home kit stays true to the heritage of Croatian football, whilst the away kit is another brilliant interpretation of Croatian design for players and fans.”
Finland jerseys
Finland’s jersey is inspired by the fearless attitude that helped the men’s team secure qualification for their first major tournament. In Finnish culture, the concept of ‘sisu’ is sacred. It translates as extraordinary determination in the face of adversity: a stoic and unyielding perseverance. The new 2020 home kit draws heavily on the flag. A white background provides the base for a blue cross that stretches across the length and width of the jersey.
Turkey jerseys
Turkish pride shines through in a 2020 Nike collection, which features the country’s traditional colours, its flag and a unique design that places an enlarged crescent and star at the centre of the home and away kits. “We wanted to capture the incredible passion for football in Turkey with a special design, so we enlarged the crescent and star to make them the focal point of the kits,” says Scott Munson, vice president of Nike Football Apparel.
Norway jerseys
Norway’s spectacular landscapes provide the inspiration for the shirt’s raw beauty. Linked by an overarching ‘Fire and Ice’ theme, Norway’s home kit burns without flames, whilst the away kit captures the rugged terrain and glaciers of the Nordic lands.
Poland jerseys
Inspired by the national team’s golden era. With the eagle returning to the centre of the jersey, the 2020 Poland national team kit harks back to the late 1970s and early 1980s, when Poland finished third in the world on two occasions.
