Although many leagues have decided to continue the current 2019/20 season, in many other leagues across Europe and the world, a unanimous decision was taken to suspend them indefinitely, in order to protect everyone involved. However, as part of the current campaign just launched by the German brand adidas, which coincided with the return to football for the current season, many clubs have seized the opportunity to begin unveiling what will be their official football kits for the 2020/21 season. Among these clubs is Ajax Amsterdam, a European record-holder, which, despite not currently competing officially, is already working with a clear focus on the coming season.
Ajax Amsterdam away jersey
We are up against the club with the most league titles in the Dutch league; two-time winners of the former Intercontinental Cup, four-time winners of the Champions League, three-time winners of the European Super Cup and one-time winners of the Europa League, as well as the Cup Winners’ Cup. We are up against a club brimming with honours, which has already introduced players such as Johan Cruyff, Marco van Basten, Edwin van der Sar, Edgar Davids and Patrick Kluivert to the world of football, amongst others. Their names alone could easily fill more than two full paragraphs in this section. A club brimming with honours and of world renown, for fielding fantastic teams that are, at times, extremely formidable.
This new jersey from the Amsterdam club will be the kit that Ajax will primarily wear for their away matches; a jersey inspired by the club’s past successes, yet one that looks to the future. The design combines different shades of blue with a graphic style that was very popular in the 1980s and early 1990s.
Unveiled as part of adidas’ global ‘Ready for Sport’ campaign, this new official Ajax jersey is not just another kit for Ajax Amsterdam fans and players. We are looking at one of the adidas football jerseys that marks and celebrates the return of major sporting competitions across the globe. According to the German brand’s designers, who worked alongside members of the Dutch club to select the design for this jersey, the idea was for the jersey to truly capture that 1980s look whilst incorporating more contemporary features – a style that was very popular in adidas jerseys at the time. As such, it served as a nod to the club’s successful past, without losing sight of the future.
This more modern design features red and white details (the Dutch club’s primary colours) to contrast with the more contemporary 1980s-inspired aesthetic in shades of blue. In short, we are looking at a retro-style jersey that has been fully updated and incorporates the German brand’s latest technologies.
Technical features: Ajax jersey
In this section, practically nothing has changed, apart from a few minor details. HEAT.RDY will be the flagship technology, and it is this that the players will wear during matches – the Dutch club’s top-of-the-range jersey. This is the one designed to minimise friction and provide ventilation. Of course, with this top-of-the-range Ajax jersey, lightness and an optimal fit will be key to ensuring that you and the players perform in the best possible conditions. Not everything is top-of-the-range, and so adidas, as it does every year, offers the option to purchase the mid-range jersey with AEROREADY technology. Don’t let that fool you—this technology is designed to provide you with the best conditions for your matches, casual games and even a spot of a run.
