For the 2006 World Cup in Germany, the brand brought out a whole new collection for all the countries it dressed, which fans really loved. At a time when adidas football boots were the Predator and the F50, clothing was becoming much more important and adidas launched a whole new groundbreaking design with circular lines that came directly from the king of the crown, the +Teamgeist ball.
Well, 15 years after releasing that collection, the German brand, in collaboration with the Japanese football culture collective called ‘Shukyu’, is bringing it back for its main teams, so we now have this design for Juventus, Boca Juniors, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
Technologically speaking, at that time Climacool was the technology responsible for wicking away sweat and helping to keep us cool and dry. The cut is wider and more square, not as tight-fitting as today's shirts.
A very distinctive feature in terms of sweat wicking were the mesh inserts that helped with this task, as well as reducing the overall weight of the shirt. This was something new at the time and meant that the shirt gained much less weight in the areas where sweat accumulated most.
These commemorative shirts were seen in clubs during the 2006/2007 season, following the World Cup in Germany, and it was certainly a treat to see Zidane, Ronaldo and Messi wearing these adidas shirts.
This collection is not limited to shirts; as we can see, it also includes jackets, sweatshirts and trousers that form part of the adidas Teamgeist collection.
And that's it for the new adidas Teamgeist shirts. We won't see the entire collection as official shirts, but we have seen them used in some matches as pre-match shirts, which speaks highly of the technology that adidas works with.
Boca Juniors is our favourite. Which one is yours?
And don't miss the new collection of adidas Predator Teamgeist boots.
