Manchester City are looking to make a decisive push in this season’s UEFA Champions League after securing some impressive victories at the start of the campaign. City may have lost their Premier League title, but they are preparing thoroughly for this chance to succeed in Europe, following their 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool, the new champions. De Bruyne’s creativity is the main reason to believe in a City side that remains unbeaten in the UEFA Champions League, but inspiration is also coming from other players. One must take into account Raheem Sterling’s dynamism in attack, Phil Foden’s growing confidence in midfield and some standout performances from Riyad Mahrez.
New Puma Manchester City 20/21 jersey
Art, industry, football, music, fashion, noise and colour are the very essence of Manchester. The mosaics on display across the city are also part of the club’s DNA, celebrating this genuinely diverse culture. As we mentioned, mosaics have also been an important part of Manchester City’s history, dating back almost 100 years to when the city’s original mosaic first adorned the gates of Maine Road stadium. Today, this mosaic and the tradition continue hand in hand, accompanied by many of the club’s legends, immortalised as works of art at the City Football Academy, serving as an inspiration to the next generation of players.
Mark Kennedy, the artist behind the mosaics in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, as well as the player artworks at the City Football Academy, said: “When I began my journey as an artist, the Northern Quarter was a derelict area that I looked at and wanted to build up. I started creating Manchester icons using metal plates and ceramic tiles, incorporating my own artistic style. My family have always been big fans of the club, so I also created player artworks. Over time, I was commissioned to create artworks for the club and the city of Manchester, so I feel privileged to see Puma using my art as inspiration for the new City Home jersey.”
The design of the home jersey is inspired by the iconic mosaics found in the creative hub of Manchester’s northern district, paying tribute to a city steeped in football and creativity. The new Manchester City jersey features the mosaic design in the classic City blue and white, with navy blue trim. The kit is completed with white shorts and blue socks. The home kit will be available from the 16th of July on the Fútbol Emotion website and in selected stores across Spain.
As we learned last year, following the new partnership between Manchester City and Puma Football, Ferrán Soriano, City’s chief executive, explained in comments published on the club’s website that the partnership with Puma “resets the sponsorship model on a global scale, whilst remaining relevant at a local level for all fans around the world”. “Puma shares our vision of challenging expectations, and we are looking forward to what we believe will be an innovative partnership.”
This new home kit will make its debut in the FA Cup semi-final between Manchester City and Arsenal on Saturday the 18th of July.
