Sporting CP (or Sporting Lisbon) is one of Portugal’s most historic clubs. It is the third most successful club in Portugal in terms of titles and, alongside SL Benfica and FC Porto, is one of only three teams never to have been relegated from the top flight of Portuguese football. Nationally, it is regarded as one of the ‘Big Three’ and, as such, every match against FC Porto is one of the great classics of Portuguese football. Furthermore, every match against Benfica holds a “special place in the heart”, as both clubs are based in Lisbon and are also fierce rivals. This footballing rivalry dates back to the days when football was still an amateur sport in Portugal and has endured to this day under the name “Lisbon Derby” or “Capital Derby”.
New 2020/21 Sporting CP kit
This new Sporting CP kit draws inspiration from the club’s past and present. In a promotional video shared on the team’s social media channels, it was clear that the message conveyed on that occasion was to pay a small tribute to the club’s past, to the glories achieved previously, such as the 1964 European Cup Winners’ Cup (the Lions’ only international title), and also to the many great players who have worn the Portuguese team’s shirt. Names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Damas and Jordão were among the first to appear printed on these new jerseys.
114 years of Sporting Lisbon’s history. To mark this important milestone, Sporting CP’s men’s and women’s teams jointly unveiled what will be their home kit for the coming season. A kit that will undoubtedly delight their fans, as it prominently features the Lisbon club’s traditional elements and everything that sets it apart from the rest.
Sporting CP’s new kit will, as always, be green and white, featuring the traditional horizontal stripes. The shorts will remain black, whilst the socks will be similar to the jersey. Unlike other teams and kit launches, it has not yet been possible to find out what the goalkeepers’ home kit will look like for next season.
