We’re still in the thick of the season following the break caused by Covid, but that doesn’t mean clubs and major sports brands aren’t already thinking about next season. With this in mind, and given that the blue and white side has become one of its key ambassadors, the American brand New Balance Football has wasted no time in unveiling the Portuguese side’s home kit for next season today. It is a jersey that, right from the start, is already causing some controversy amongst Porto fans due to the choice of colour used in the kit’s decorative details.
FC Porto 2020/21 kit
This new jersey features a special detail for the Portuguese club’s most observant fans, as its thinner blue stripes – which are more numerous than on this season’s kit – are very reminiscent of the kit worn during the legendary 2002/03 Liga NOS season, which culminated in victory in the UEFA Cup final against Celtic in Seville.
Featuring a V-neck, the jersey boasts a more modern design, which also highlights next season’s slogan, “NAÇÃO PORTO”, inscribed on the inside of the collar. One of the details that has failed to win over Porto fans is the colour chosen for the jersey's decorative elements. The sponsor’s logo appears in a bright yellow that catches the eye immediately and takes centre stage on the kit.
As this is one of the elements that most inspires passion amongst the blue-and-white club’s supporters worldwide, the designers have also sought to convey that passion for the blue and white stripes on the shorts and socks. The kit retains a very distinctive colour scheme: the shorts are entirely blue, whilst the socks are predominantly white, featuring a blue detail and the inscription ‘FC Porto’ in yellow.
The goalkeeper’s kit will feature black as the predominant colour, with an abstract design on the sleeves. This jersey will be available very soon at Fútbol Emotion.
