Nike presents the fifth edition of Mercurial Dream Speed, boots designed by Cristiano Ronaldo that only a select few will wear on the pitch.

In 2019, Nike presented the first edition of the Nike Mercurial Dream Speed football boots, a series inspired by the idea of fulfilling your dreams on an individual level with a pair of Mercurials on your feet. At that time, Cristiano Ronaldo was already responsible for designing that special edition of the American brand's speed silo, and that has not changed, as in this fifth generation, the Portuguese player continues to be the designer and ambassador of one of Nike's most exclusive collections.
We won't go into detail about the technical specifications of these football boots, as they are standard Mercurials, and we already have a post analysing them. What we have here is an aesthetic change, which, as always happens at MDS, has a story behind it.
This time, Cristiano Ronaldo has been inspired by the concept of “mindfulness”, which plays a very important role in the Portuguese footballer's life and which he wanted to capture in the design of these Nike Mercurial MDS 005 football boots. It is no secret that the Manchester United striker works on his mental strength and emotional well-being on a daily basis, and we have heard him say things like ‘My mind is my greatest strength’ and ‘When you are positive, you are capable of great things.’ That is why he has decided to use colours that express all the emotions that a footballer must be able to control on the pitch.
We have two types of colours: bright colours such as lilac and yellow, which express effusiveness and energy, two essential qualities for an elite footballer, but which can backfire if used in excess, hence the need to control them with mental strength. On the other hand, we have neutral, soft colours, such as white and various shades of ecru, which represent calm and stability, a fundamental value in the busy and exposed life of a footballer with the media profile of CR7.
Another important part of the design of the Nike Mercurial MDS 005 football boots is the swoosh. The Americans have once again given us an elongated logo that covers the entire outside of the boot and much of the central area. Inside it, we can see another swoosh, this time much smaller, placed inside the main one. On the inside, Nike has once again outlined its logo in a medium size, drawing only the outline and letting the design of these football boots slip inside it.
Finally, on the heel we find the Mercurial Dream Speed logo, accompanied by the number 005, which refers to the edition to which these Nike Mercurial football boots belong. Interestingly, we are surprised that the American brand uses three digits to number the different models in this range, which we find very ambitious on the part of the brand, given that someone decided at the time that two digits would not be enough in the future.
This is Nike's most exclusive range, as not all of the brand's footballers will be wearing the new Nike Mercurial Dream Speed 005 football boots. The honour will go to its ambassador and designer, Cristiano Ronaldo, accompanied by Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Jr, Bruno Fernandes, Ansu Fati, Erling Haaland, Brenden Aaronson, Leroy Sane, Wu Lei, Ada Hegerberg, Jessica Silva, Barbara Bonansea and Sam Kerr.
