We began by talking about Mbappé’s football boots, touching on their history; specifically, the ones he admired as a kid. We went back to 2008, when Nike launched the Nike Mercurial Vapor IV in a vibrant shade of pink. It was these boots that captivated the young French boy. Made and crafted in Italy, the vibrant pink colour was combined with a cutting-edge design that embodied speed and created a supersonic look. The boot itself was designed for speed and, naturally, to help players reach the ball faster.
The Mercurial Vapor IV in Pink featured a patented traction system that provided low-profile acceleration and multi-directional grip. Stabilising the foot, a contoured EVA insert cradled the heel, whilst a transparent TPU/fibreglass heel wrap, visible from the outside, provided lightweight stability with minimal slippage. The combination of these technologies created an incredibly comfortable fit that allowed for sustained play at high speed. A highly innovative boot that underwent a radical transformation with a bold and unexpected injection of vibrant pink.
New Mbappé's Nike football boots
The PSG player recalls: "When I was a boy of about 10, I saw these amazing pink boots being worn by some of my favourite players in the world. I wanted those boots so badly that I begged my parents to buy them for me, and they told me that if I worked really hard and did well at school for long enough, I could get these beautiful boots. I listened to my parents and worked so hard that in the end they had to give them to me. I was so happy! I’m really pleased that Nike has created my second collection of products featuring these special boots for the most important club match of my career! What a dream to wear them! They’re the new versions of the pink boots I loved as a kid, and it’s so special for me to be working towards achieving my dreams with these boots.”
Beyond their bold and vibrant colour scheme, the Nike Mercurial Superfly Mbappé Pink football boots draw inspiration from the speed-focused features found in the original boot, whilst modernising the design’s aesthetic. A lightning-bolt Swoosh leading to the toe, the chrome plate and the leather finishes on the upper, alongside the KM and Mercurial logos, serve as stylish updates to the silhouette.
Technical features: Nike Mercurial
The Flyknit construction of these boots is simply outstanding and provides a truly superior fit. The grip on these boots is incredibly aggressive, allowing sprinters to give their all in every race; the boots worn by Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Mbappé are once again at the top of the football boot rankings.
And this is Nike’s groundbreaking new look, which really stands out on the pitch. Special mention goes to the Mercurial, which we love a little bit more every time we see it, and which is made even more special by the ‘retro’ detail that goes with this story. Is this your absolute favourite Mercurial?
