Let's travel back in time to 1971. Nike had only been around for a year and was looking to make a name for itself in the sports footwear market. It didn't have much experience in this field, but it did have its own trainer, the Cortez, so what they did was very simple. They took that shoe and adapted it to different sports, such as football, where all they had to do was add a studded sole to create thefirst Nike football boots.
Today, 50 years later, the swoosh brand brings us these Nike 1971 football boots, a remake of the first Nike football boots. At first glance, we can see that this is not just a simple inspiration, but that they really wanted to bring us their first football boots, and if they told us that these are 50 years old, we would believe them.
An upper made of natural leather, with the same number of seams and the same distribution as the originals, and of course, in black. On this background we find the Nike swoosh, both inside and outside, large and in white. There are many logos in the world, but none like this one, with so much personality and capable of dressing any garment regardless of its size or colour.
In the instep area, we have a classic leather lace-up fastening centred on the tongue, with a patch on the upper that references the World Cup that was played in the year the brand was founded. Something that surprises us in this area is the colour of the laces, because although it is true that white gives these Nike football boots a more retro touch, we would dare to say that at that time 100% of players wore black ones.
Finally, we move on to the sole. The sole is exactly the same as the one Nike decided to use on the Cortez 50 years ago to create its first football boots. Nine conical studs on the front and four laminated studs on the back. A plate that leads us to believe that the American brand has launched this edition for collectors, as looking at it raises certain doubts about its functionality for today's football.
This has been our review of the Nike 1971 football boots, a remake of the American brand's first football boots. It's true that Nike doesn't usually release this type of edition, but we're delighted that they have done so, especially with this level of authenticity and detail. Now available in stores and on the Fútbol Emotion website.
