In collaboration with adidas, we’ve brought back from the past one of the quintessential speed boots and one of the most beloved. Welcome to adidas F50 Memory Lane by Fútbol Emotion.

We’ve long taken the adidas X football boot range for granted, seeing it as the three-stripe brand’s flagship speed boot, but ever since the F50 was discontinued in 2015, many fans of the range have continued to miss it. Well, today is your day. Yes, today is truly a very special day for all of us who love football boots, as the Fútbol Emotion – adidas collaboration brings you one of those boots that defined an era, one of those boots that has left its mark on the hearts of many fans.

There’s no better way to start this post than by paying tribute to what adidas has been doing in recent months – a true display of passion and craftsmanship. It seems as though fate has willed it so: two parallel stories coming together – Fútbol Emotion on one side and adidas on the other. We, as a company, are passionate about everything to do with sports equipment, and adidas, a historic name in the world of football, is one of the queens of this beautiful sport. A brand without which nothing would be the same.

Many of our readers are well aware of what the history of the F50 means; others, who are a little younger, perhaps not so much. Well, we have to go back to 2004, a year when adidas had only two product lines: Copa Mundial and Predator. At that time, adidas realised that a new range was needed, one that was much lighter and better suited to attacking players. It was with this in mind that the F50 was born (the adizero, our focus today, would come later).

Storytelling

Before delving deeper, let’s take a brief look back to see where this colour scheme comes from – the very thing into which Fútbol Emotion has poured its passion and all its focus. The hexagon is a geometric shape that can be seen on footballs and, at times, on goal nets; it’s something ingrained in the mind of every football fan, as you can clearly see in the company’s logo.

That is precisely why we wanted EVERYTHING to be captured: our love, our passion, our emotion, the way we feel and, above all, the way we LIVE FOOTBALL. That is why these hexagons appear on the boot. We have chosen the colour gold, which represents success and triumph, and also adds an elegant and distinctive touch when you wear them. All this against a sober black background, paying homage to the classic player. The one who is ever-present in every corner of the company. Of course, with the three white stripes, proudly flying the flag and adding the finishing touch to this truly unique boot. We want those balls to end up in the back of the net, bearing a unique and special mark.

This is what we work towards every day, in perfect harmony, in a football boot.

Technical features: F50 by Fútbol Emotion

It was 2014, and adidas was once again reviving its long-standing mission to reduce the weight of football boots to the absolute minimum. In this regard, it was already setting the standard with its current adizero F50, but it managed to go one step further with the launch of the adizero Crazylight, a boot weighing just 135 grams – a figure that doesn’t make much sense until you realise it represents a 20% reduction in weight compared to what was then the current adizero F50. The German brand was able to achieve such an extreme weight reduction because the key lay in the new microfibre used to manufacture the shell: the famous HybridTouch. A technology that delighted everyone who tried it.

1- HybridTouch took four times longer than traditional leather to absorb the same amount of water.
2- HybridTouch was more durable than its competitors and sister products within the brand under stressful conditions and maintained its snug fit for a longer period of time.
3- HybridTouch was 40% lighter than natural leather.
4- The HybridTouch material performed impressively in both wet and dry conditions.

To sum up this upper: the idea behind adidas HybridTouch was to provide the natural, flexible feel of leather, combined with the durability for which synthetics are renowned. Compared to traditional leathers, adidas HybridTouch took four times longer to absorb the same amount of moisture. Thanks to its synthetic construction, adidas HybridTouch was also more resistant to wear and tear and would retain its shape for longer periods of time – something you can enjoy once again today in 2020.

Naturally, there are several aspects of this masterpiece that we simply have to leave behind, such as its studs. In 2014, one feature that had always been present in the latest generations of the adizero F50 and which, naturally, could not be missing from the new Crazylight at the time was the SprintFrame; it was probably this technology that, years ago, began to tip the battle for lightness in adidas’s favour. A technology that joined the sole and the heel counter into a single piece, with a weight almost undetectable except by precision scales, and which cushioned and supported the torsional forces of players’ strides just like traditional soles.

Today, the progress is crystal clear, keeping pace with the latest technological advancements to help cope with speed, stemming from the introduction of the CARBITEX SPEEDFRAME in this F50, efficiently transmitting power through the revolutionary and dynamic carbon fibre plate in the lightweight SpeedFrame construction. The X Ghosted, from which this plate originates, naturally represented the first football boot available on the market to feature a dynamic carbon plate. It is worth remembering that this is a real success, as the reality is that the soles made today are better, lighter and feature studs adapted to modern pitches, and let’s not forget that these boots are made for playing football, not for sitting on a shelf.

Let’s move on to the more sentimental side of this launch. The perfect blend of colours—adidas’s closely guarded secret for years—where those colours evoke the most important positive emotions: joy, pride, fun, inspiration and, why not say it, passion. Now the adidas F50 is a classic in the world of football boots, but at the time it was a shock to players, and to us personally, it still seems that way today. A story, a range spanning more than 13 generations, from 2004 to 2015. We hope you enjoy, as we do, everything that’s happening around this wonderful range.
