Whatever happens, whatever may come, the adidas Copa Mundial will forever remain a benchmark in the history of both the German brand and the sport of football itself. These football boots, which first appeared in 1979, are still worn today by both professionals and amateurs alike. That’s why adidas continues to produce them in large quantities and even in packs like today’s, allowing us to wear the full historical essence of this icon of the football pitch on our feet, but with the latest technologies from the brand with the three stripes.
Just like the previous adidas World Cup-themed release (Copa70), these Copa Mundial 21 PK boots feature an upper with the same design as the Copa Mundial OG, but with one key difference. The traditional high-quality K-Leather has been replaced by Primeknit, which also gives the upper of these football boots a slightly different construction.
The colourway chosen for this release, although slightly different in some details, offers a fairly faithful recreation of the 2014 adidas Samba release. However, not everything is inspired solely by previous or older releases, as on the sole we can identify the same shade of colour found on the back of the sole of the adidas Copa Sense+ from the SuperSpectral pack, so it can be deduced that the inspiration for the boots’ final colour scheme comes from that pack.
These boots, officially unveiled today, should come as no surprise to fans, collectors and enthusiasts of football boots, as Manchester City player Ilkay Gündogan was spotted training in them last week, just before the Champions League match against PSG.
