The front of the upper on these Mercurial boots features a synthetic microfibre that is characterised by its high durability and flexibility. The 3D-textured technology incorporates varying thicknesses, which ultimately protect the player’s foot much more effectively. Inside this Academy range, there is a non-slip insole which, together with the padded heel reinforcement, keeps the foot securely in place to prevent slipping during the most intense moments of play.
They are made from a highly water-resistant material and also feature a technology with a subtle 3D texture that incorporates varying thicknesses to support the foot and improve ball contact. They have an internal heel counter to secure the foot more effectively and prevent internal movement. The triad studs in the metatarsal area provide greater stability at any speed, whilst those in the heel aid braking and traction.
Whilst the first Furon model featured a thin but overly stiff upper, in this new generation the synthetic material used is softer, offering greater ball-touch sensitivity without compromising on durability. The second-generation TPU outsole remains unchanged, as it was one of the standout features of the original model. It is a responsive outsole reinforced with multi-directional studs that greatly help to boost the speed of the fastest players.
For the upper, Nike has opted for a two-piece construction: an outer layer made from a thicker, more durable synthetic microfibre, and an inner layer—visible from the lacing system up to the collar—made from a stretch fabric to offer above-average fit and comfort, despite this being an entry-level model. As with higher-end ranges, the laces have been moved to the outside of the boot, as on the old T90s, to provide a much cleaner strike. The sole incorporates a stabilising plate and features conical studs complemented by laminated studs, allowing for effortless turns.
Even when designing a lower-end boot, the German brand remains true to its philosophy and retains the one-piece upper construction, this time using an updated version of a synthetic material. The brand has placed a strong emphasis on this material, introducing a change to the surface finish to improve grip compared to the previous generation. One of the factors to which adidas attaches the greatest importance is the heel reinforcement, both internal and external, as this is one of the key features of this model. The sole features a new plate characterised by its durability and lightness.
