A new year is upon us, and adidas hasn’t wasted any time in launching its first collection of 2022. The EDGE OF DARKNESS Pack strips the Copa Sense and X Speedflow of their lights, plunging them into total darkness and letting black take centre stage.

It’s taken adidas just four days to unveil its first collection for 2022, which has only just begun. The German brand has brought us a Black Pack – the sort that sells so well commercially, yet we won’t see it on any professional pitch, something we’ve never quite understood, as there are surely plenty of players who’d prefer to wear this understated colourway.
As you may have seen from the photos, this new Edge of Darkness Pack does not include the three adidas silos. It’s an open secret that the Germans have something new in store for us when it comes to adidas Predator football boots; we imagine that’s why they’ve decided to leave that silo out of this collection and bring us only the Copa Sense and the X Speedflow.
We’ll start by talking about the adidas X Speedflow football boots, adidas’s lightest boot range. It comes as no surprise that black suits this model so well, as we saw them in this colour on the very day they were launched. Even so, we’re delighted that adidas has brought back a design we’ve all loved, with subtle colour changes that set them apart from the version we saw a few months ago.
These colours we’re talking about will serve to link the two ranges together and bring a sense of cohesion to the collection that adidas is presenting to us today. Against a simple black backdrop, adidas has chosen to incorporate three colours in a very subtle way. These are blue, red and white, all given equal prominence and capable of standing out against the main colour, simply by adding subtle lines to the upper of these adidas football boots.
One distinctive and noteworthy detail is that the adidas logo has taken on a different look to what we’re used to seeing on these adidas X Speedflow football boots. Moving down the boot to the instep, we find the brand’s signature three stripes, each dyed a different colour. Blue, white and red – three colours for three stripes – giving a distinct, casual look to a logo that doesn’t usually evoke this sort of feel.
We’re switching gears and moving on to the adidas Copa Sense football boots. This new colourway showcases the more classic side of adidas’ leather model. These are all-black football boots, with the exception of the three colours mentioned earlier, which take even less centre stage here than on their sister model, the X Speedflow. The placement of the blue, red and white is the reason why they are less visible on these adidas Copa Sense football boots; after all, the first thing we look at when seeing a pair of football boots is the upper, not the heel—the very spot where adidas has decided to place these three colours.
But don’t get me wrong – just because they’re understated or classic doesn’t mean they aren’t gorgeous. Black is a colour that suits the Copa Sense perfectly, as has been demonstrated in the brand’s previous collections. The absence of lights fits perfectly with the concept conveyed by Copa Sense, which, combined with the three coloured stripes on the heel, makes these football boots understated yet free from the formality with which they have been presented in other packs.
This is certainly a great collection to kick off the year, though adidas is sure to have plenty more surprises in store for us in 2022, starting with the Predator range. As you’d expect, these boots are now available both in-store and on the Fútbol Emotion website.
New colourways for two silos from the swoosh brand, which are already filling the courts. The Attack Pack is already showing off, and we're going to take a look at all its details.
We have a new limited edition of the adidas Predator 26, which come in spectacular colourways and a very special design. Let's find out everything these new Unlocked boots have to offer.
