Before we start talking about these football boots, we should bear in mind that these aren’t Nike boots made exclusively for the Portuguese player. Samantha Kerr, captain of the Australian national football team, will also be wearing them, as will Kylian Mbappé, the new star of French football. All three players will receive this new version of the Nike Mercurial Superfly.
This second edition, or second chapter, has an interesting story behind its design. Although these boots were created for three different players, the design was developed exclusively to the specifications of just one of them. The aim was to produce a final product that would speak for itself: these are Cristiano Ronaldo’s boots. The player, who represents both the Portuguese national team and Juventus, chose both the colourway concept and the details to be included in the design.
As for the colourway of these football boots, Nike decided to call it ‘Lemon Venom’. It is a very special colour combination for the Portuguese player, as it is inspired by the 2006 Nike Mercurial boots – the year of the World Cup in Germany, when Portugal reached the semi-finals and Cristiano Ronaldo was one of the tournament’s standout players.
As far as specific details are concerned, these boots are a far cry from the first edition, which was packed with unique and personal touches. This time round, there is just one detail on the toe area: the numbers 299,792,458 M/S, which correspond to nothing less than the speed of light. A detail that fits perfectly with speed boots such as the Nike Mercurial.
Technical features: Nike Mercurial MDS #2
In terms of technology, these boots have remained unchanged since the launch of their new generation at the start of last summer. They feature a one-piece Flyknit upper with a 360° construction that completely envelops the foot. The Flyknit upper also features a NikeSkin coating that enhances the material’s durability and is complemented by ACC technology, which ensures consistent grip in all weather conditions. The outsole incorporates a two-piece modular plate which, together with the internal chassis, provides greater stability and traction for every movement we make on the pitch.
