Now that we have leather boots, synthetic boots, canvas boots and hybrid styles across virtually every boot design and brand, let’s take a look at five exclusively synthetic styles (we’ll save the canvas and leather ones for another round-up) that won’t let you down. That said, this time we’ll be focusing exclusively on analysing the upper of each one.
adidas Predator Freak
We’ll start with a range that isn’t technically made from synthetic materials, as it’s Primeknit that forms the upper. However, given the slightly thicker synthetic overlay and the fabulous DemonSkin 2.0, they offer a different feel to the typical knitted boot, and are closer to what you might experience with a thick synthetic microfibre shell.
The reinforced boot and spikes give us that extra touch and grip on the ball, making this boot one of the most special on the market today. Technically, it isn’t synthetic, but in terms of how it feels on your feet and when striking the ball, it has to be among the best.
adidas X SpeedFlow
We’re continuing with football boots from the German brand, and this time it’s the turn of the Speed line. The new upper material on the X range is far more comfortable than that of the previous generation, and whilst it has a certain textile feel to it, the boot’s overall feel is purely synthetic.
There’s no doubt about the boot’s new construction and the comfort it offers, but the key to this boot undoubtedly lies in the sole. It features one of the most advanced soles available today, with carbon fibre inserts that take things a step further and make this boot truly sensational.
Nike Mercurial
We continue with the American brand’s new fastest boot, which underwent a change in its latest version by moving away from Flyknit and opting for synthetic materials, returning to the essence of the Mercurial.
This new upper, constructed from multiple layers, retains the comfort and feel of previous generations, whilst offering the lightness and adaptability of synthetic materials. The upper is so supple that it moulds to the foot very quickly and, combined with the sole, provides excellent comfort without compromising in the slightest on the extreme speed that this range is known for.
Puma Ultra
With the redesign of the Puma Ultra, the boot has returned to a synthetic upper – a feature typical of speed football boots – which, although slightly narrower, has recaptured that characteristic feel of a snug fit and responsiveness that we seek to be the fastest on the pitch.
Puma Future
