The brand continues to thrive. This historic brand is undoubtedly one of the most important in the glove-making industry. There isn’t a single football goalkeeper in the world who hasn’t worn a pair of Reusch goalkeeper gloves at some point in their sporting career, whatever their age or level. All these factors result in an unconscious association with the classic and understated, but make no mistake, friends: at the start of this season, Reusch has brought us its latest ‘wild ride’.
Pure Contact X-Ray 3 - Reusch for Halloween
The German brand has once again demonstrated that it is at the forefront, not just in terms of aesthetics, but more importantly, by listening to goalkeepers’ demands and needs. An act of courage – that’s how we see this launch in terms of design, because although goalkeepers were the first to move away from the classic colours, a design like this simply takes things a step further in this area, with the X-rays of a kraken’s tentacles as the undisputed stars of this launch.
Regarded by many goalkeepers as one of the best gloves currently on the market, the Reusch Pure Contact was one of the pioneers of the hugely popular ‘seamless’ gloves, a genuine success not only among professional goalkeepers but also among semi-professionals and amateurs. Not content with this welcome reception, the brand with the arrow logo introduced, alongside the high-end G3 Fusion palm, a water-specific version: the AX2. Reusch is known for offering goalkeepers everything they need and has filled a necessary gap – and we would dare to say the most widely used one – as this X-Ray model is available with the R3 palm. This latest glove is designed to support goalkeepers playing on artificial turf or dirt pitches; it is definitely the one for those who want excellent grip without compromising on durability.
One feature shared by all Reusch Pure Contact gloves is the neoprene cuff, known by the Germans as Free Flex, which allows the hand to move as naturally and freely as possible. On the downside, we do miss the striking and blocking zones on the back of the hand, as found in the elite range. One of the standout features is the wristband, designed in an asymmetrical shape and covered on the palm side by a section of more durable latex that acts as an extended palm and, at the same time, provides the high-abrasion zone typical of a goalkeeper’s contact with the turf – something absolutely essential, especially when considering a high-end palm like the G3 Fusion.
In short, the Reusch X-Ray combines a high-end model such as the Pure Contact with the aforementioned G3 Fusion palm. Just a few weeks ago, we published a post recommending the best gloves for playing football on artificial turf; these are particularly well-suited to amateur football.
