Nike Air Zoom Mercurial Vapor Elite: Special Edition

The American brand does not usually flood us with special editions, but on this occasion, with the World Cup in the background, it presents a very special edition of the well-known Mercurial Vapor. Let's find out all the details.

Being one of the most iconic brands in the world of football boots has its advantages, and that is that we have countless designs over the years which, if we bring them up to date, give us gems like the one we are looking at today.

This special edition from the American brand comes from one of the best periods Mercurial has ever had, and is the most recent to be launched. The design comes directly from the 2001 Nike Air Zoom Mercurial VT and is part of Nike's ‘alpha project’. An internal company project whose purpose was to identify and solve performance issues with products used by top athletes.

The symbol that a product came from the ‘alpha project’ was five dots, which in this case are located on the heel counter and are of course also included in the reissue. This entire design is reflected in the current Nike Mercurial Vapor 15 Elite, giving us one of the best looks in this silo.

The old Mercurials had a microfibre upper and a new sole called VT, which stands for variable turf. These were Nike's first additions to a variable sole and laminated studs, which also included Air Zoom technology throughout the internal plate.

We have also seen these technologies in more recent editions of Nike's fastest boot, demonstrating once again the advanced technology we have inside the Nike Mercurial.

Focusing now on the re-release, we have an edition that replicates the colour scheme and details of those old Mercurials, even dyeing the Air Zoom area white, just like its predecessor.

And in terms of technical performance, there is little we can tell you that we haven't already told you about the new Nike Mercurial, with the new vaporposite upper, the new triad stud plate and Air Zoom technology that gives us a more comfortable boot, with a wider last and a very light construction thanks to an internal foam plate that ultimately gives us a simply fabulous model.

So that's our review of a special edition that is simply a gem, giving a retro design to one of today's most modern boots. Every detail has been taken care of, and even the box they come in is the same as the one we had in 2001. A fantastic boot that is now available on the Futbolemotion website
