Chelsea’s new jersey, which the team wore on the 5th of January in their match against Nottingham Forest Football Club – a game the London side won 2–0 in the third round of the FA Cup. Nike has chosen to commemorate Chelsea’s 50th anniversary, marking the club’s first FA Cup victory – a legendary and historic moment for the Stamford Bridge club.
Chelsea FC special edition jersey
This Chelsea jersey will not be the one worn for the rest of the season, even though the Blues’ supporters have loved it and preferred it far more than the official jersey they usually wear. From an aesthetic point of view, the kit is, as you’d expect, royal blue with yellow trim, a crest, socks and player numbers, matching the details of the original 1970 kit.
As a point of interest – something that will appeal to the most die-hard fans of our sport – for the first time, the Swoosh and the Nike sponsorship, as well as Yokohama and Hyundai, have been incorporated into the jersey's colour scheme to create a kt that is both truly innovative and classic, just as was the case in the 1970s, when the crests on the jerseys were the sole and true stars of the show.
Vaporknit technology in Nike jerseys
Chelsea have won 23 titles since 1997, all at Stamford Bridge, which highlights the importance and passion of the fans at their home ground; and this must be the real reason why Chelsea FC are counted amongst Europe’s greatest clubs. Before that, though, you’ve got to give it your all, and to that end, the American brand has once again opted for ‘Vaporknit’ technology – a fabric designed to keep you cool and dry whatever the weather conditions. The fit is the slim-fit typical of a high-performance jersey and, as always, it is made from 100 per cent recycled polyester, which speaks volumes about Nike’s commitment to the environment.
Chelsea’s kit for the 2019/2020 season breaks the mould in every respect, particularly when compared to the classic, understated designs typically seen in home kits, with a groundbreaking and innovative design that is sure to delight all fans of the London club.
