For the Rio de Janeiro team’s most loyal supporters, this new jersey is nothing new, as the first images of Flamengo’s new home kit for 2020 began circulating online and on social media on the 11th of February.
In a way, this jersey revives Flamengo’s official anthem and is steeped in history and mystique. Let’s not forget that the red-and-black side’s official anthem was first sung in 1920. Exactly 100 years later, the team’s home jersey draws clear inspiration from one of the most memorable moments in the Rio de Janeiro club’s history. To this day, Flamengo fans continue to sing this anthem from the stands: “Flamengo, your glory lies in fighting...”.
In Brazil, adidas went all out with this campaign, featuring well-known Mengão fans such as Marcelo D2 and MC Cabelinho, amongst others. Several renowned artists were tasked with recreating the famous anthem in different locations and situations.
