Competitive exercises for training

Teach these exercises to your goalkeepers and get a fun workout while training at a high level of intensity and speed.

20 December 2015 - Written by Carlos Alejandro Royo Trallero

Hello everyone,

This week, I propose two exercises that you will be able to use with your goalkeepers and will make them work at a high level without them even realizing about it and most important, always combining competitive and fun contents.

It is about plays that goalkeepers enjoy, clears and catches at a mid-height, throwing the ball and bounce it against a wet mat, small trampolines

After a tough season, this will be a fun training for them to enjoy and have even a better time than usual while training.

Ejercicio 1

This exercise starts with both goalkeepers working at the same time. One one side, one of them takes on the frequency ladder, and the other one clears a lateral ball thrown against the wet mat.

Once the goalkeeper finishes the frequency ladder he will have to save a low shot taken from the one side. At the same time the other one will sprint to and then bend down. Right after that the other goalkeeper will jump over the one that is bending down and will catch a shot taken by the coach. The one that was bending down will quickly stand up to save a shot on target by clearing the football away over the crossbar.

Ejercicio 2

The exercise starts with the coach taking a straight shot so the goalkeeper makes a frontal catch. He will give the ball back to the coach and will start a sideways movement stepping between the bars on the ground, from left to right and then go back to the initial position the same way (see picture).
Then the coach will throw a high ball towards the inflatable dummy for the goalkeeper to to jup and catch it. He will quickly run few meters forward and try to score on a team-mate by throwing a football with his hand and bouncing it against a small trampoline.

After this last play I have drawn discontinuous red lines that show the rotation to start the exercise again.

I hope you like it and... start training!
