Exercises to catch the football on the move

Before next season, it is important to train our skills. In order to do so, I bring you two exercises to train speed and stay active during the Summer.

Hello everyone,

This week I bring you two new exercises to train our goalkeepers, that will help maintain their level during the Summer. In order to do so, we will train at a maximum level of intensity.

These exercises connect three consecutive plays, therefore the goalkeeper will have to do his best and rest a little before the next play.

The important thing in all plays is, performing technical actions the right way. It is key that speed and intensity do not lead us to make mistakes. We will lower the pace a little if necessary, but the exercise will be performed correctly. This will increase the goalkeeper´s confidence and improve his technique.

Exercise 1

The goalkeeper taking on the exercise will place himself next to a post and will receive a lateral pass to catch it while he falls sideways, he will stand up quickly throw the ball bouncing it on a wet mat with the intention of scoring against a team mate placed few meters away.

After that throw, he will run around a parapet and then moving sideways he will try to catch a football thrown by the coach against a small trampoline.

Exercise 2

The goalkeeper taking on the exercise will place himself facing a team mate, and will be separated from him by a hurdle.

The team mate will throw the ball straight for the goalkeeper to catch it, then, he will pass it to a team mate placed on his right (see picture).

He will jump over the hurdle and quickly turn around, to catch the football his team mate will throw against the small trampoline by jumping at a medium-height and falling to his side with the football in his hands.

The goalkeeper will quickly stand up and save the last kick taken by the coach towards a small goal.

I hope you like them and… start training!
