Hello coaches and goalkeepers,
Today I would like to tell you about one of the workouts that must always be included in a goalkeeper´s training. I believe it is key to practice goalkeeper position and positioning in order to face a technical play in the best way possible.
Here is the difference between position and positioning:
Position: it is the physical body structure, that must be adopted by the goalkeeper prior to any type of play that requires a specific technical action.
Positioning: it will be the place I must be at to save a goal. It will usually be the bisector of the angle created by the football and the goal´s posts.
So, the position would be: how do I place myself? And the positioning: where di I place myself?
Now you know a little more about these terms, so I will explain the exercises.
Exercise 1:
The main session starts with the throw of a tennis ball, so the goalkeeper punches it away. Then, he will go around an inflatable dummy and attacking the ball forward, he will perform a lateral fall against a shot on target.
He will quickly recover his position for a high ball thrown from the side of the goal and push it away. Here the exercise will be over, unless he is not able to push the football out of bounds, which in this case would be followed by a shot from the side.
Exercise 2:
We will throw a football against a small trampoline to simulate a high cross, after grabbing it, he will perform a throw to a team-mate on the side.
Quickly, without losing sight of the football, we do a lateral jump over a string and we get ready for a shot outside the box. If the goalkeepers grabs it, he will perform a goal kick to a team-mate standing on the side next to the bench and the exercise will be over. If he does not grab it, we will position ourselves again to receive a side cross and if the goalkeeper grabs it, we will finish with him kicking the ball away.
We hope you have liked these exercises.
