If you share our delight towards HO Soccer, you must have been pleased with every change of colour from the Ghotta model. A distinctive glove among the professional and competition market, that barely needs any presentation towards goalkeepers around the world.
The hybrid cut, the backhand latex that extends towards the wristcuff and the overall glove's anatomy has distinguised a glove that has provided plenty of joy to the goalies that have been using them on a regular basis for the last five years.
Time flies, however, and the Ghotta model seemed to have come to an end. HO Soccer reached a point where they were standing at a crossroads, a point between risk and renewal. Eventually they leant towards the former one, and therefore have developed the Ikarus goalkeeper glove, wich is called to surpass the expectations set by its predecessor.
A totally new line, that will however look familiar to the Ghotta fans.
Lets start by talking about the features that come along the same lines from the Ghotta. The construction, which guarantees the largest possible latex area -specially remarkable in the fingertips- stays true to its predecessor. The adjustment in the palm also remains equal, and is pretty anatomical. This distinctive overall fitting from the Ghotta has majorly provided its big name, so including it into the new Ikarus is in our opinion a wise decision.
The list of novelties coming up in the Ikarus starts with the weight. Something you can realize from the very moment you wear this glove, is that its a heavier model due to the greater reinforcement it has been manufactured with. This favours the inertia from the hand on quick movements; the efficiency from this feature may be open to discussion, however the sensations when wearing the Ikarus are nothing less than comfortable.
Continuing with this list, there is a 3D gel injected in the fingertips. This concept has been already developed by other brands; HO Soccer however, has given a twist to it and becomes particularly effective, mainly because of its lightness and flexibility in comparison with the one featured in models from the competitors brands. Besides, the gel is sewn to the backhand, so it is presumed to have a greater lifespan.
Following in the list, the Ikarus comes with the new Aquaformula latex in the palm, specially designed to perform under wet conditions. This can be specially appropiate when it comes to the latest adidas and nike footballs, that can be sometimes difficult to grab. Once the gloves get washed for the second or third time, the palm lives up to its compound name, as it provides the glove with unrivalled grip on the football under wet conditions.
The neoprene body substitutes the previous DS Skin, this provides the glove with an enhanced flexibility and thermal insulation. Probably worth mentioning, but less important though is the new Microstrap 3D made out from gel.
One of the most important downsides in comparison to its predecessor, is the loss from the Ghotta's characteristic backhand latex piece that was fixed to the wrist cuff. This could in fact contribute to a more efficient fastening, however in our opinion this affects the glove's stability adversely, and is an opinion that many people sheem to share.
Overall, HO Ikarus is featuring some notorious upgrades with regards to its predecessor. An evolution that could be taken as a sad goodbye to the Ghotta line from its numerous fans. All changes are more or less tinged with melancholy, but putting sentimentality aside, the Ikarus represents an important quality leap so that the HO soccer fans don't perceive a stagnation in the Spanish brand.
